Laser Pointer vs. Polar Scope – Which Is More Accurate?

Both the laser pointer and the polar scope are useful tools for polar alignment, but the polar scope generally offers higher accuracy.

• Laser Pointer (5mW output): Quick and easy to use, the laser pointer is the most convenient tool for polar alignment. However, it's important to note that some countries, such as Switzerland and Australia, do not allow the use of lasers due to safety regulations.
• Polar Scope: Provides a more precise alignment with Polaris / North Celestial Pole or the South Celestial Pole. It’s ideal for achieving a high level of accuracy, especially for long-exposure astrophotography.

For setups with long focal lengths, the polar scope is generally recommended for better precision.
