The NOMAD Balancing Counterweight Kit is designed to improve balance, stability, and tracking performance in your astrophotography setup, especially when using heavier lenses or shooting at higher elevation angles.
When your camera and lens setup becomes front-heavy (typically around 2 kg or more), it creates torque on the mount. This can affect smooth motion and reduce tracking accuracy during long exposures.
The balancing kit solves this by:
- Positioning a counterweight directly opposite the camera (always at 180°) for proper balance
- Reducing torque when shooting at high or off-center angles
- Keeping tracking movement smoother and more stable
- Improving overall accuracy for long exposure astrophotography
It is especially useful if you:
- Use heavier or telephoto lenses (typically around 2 kg)
- Shoot at elevated or offset angles
- Want improved stability for long exposures
- Prefer a properly balanced setup for higher precision tracking
💡 Note: The balancing kit is not required for all users. If you are using a lightweight camera with a wide-angle lens, the NOMAD works perfectly without it.
The kit is mainly designed for heavier setups that require additional balance support.
