Yes, you can. However, the guiding constellation in the Southern Hemisphere- Octans, is quite dim, so it can often be difficult to see through the polar scope.
If you are familiar with the position of this constellation, you can still perform polar alignment by following the guide and placing the stars accordingly.
Southern Hemisphere:
1. Mount the illuminator onto the polar scope and secure it by tightening the screw at the end of the tube.
Shine a light source, such as a phone flashlight or headlamp, onto the illuminator for about one minute. This will “charge” it so it can glow in the dark.
Once charged, it emits a soft green light, making the reticle inside the polar scope easier to see in low-light conditions.
2. Find the Octants in the Sky, Adjust your tracker's gesture until the "Octans" icon in the scope matches its actual orientation in the sky.
